A day out at the lake can be a great way to relax or exercise. Fishing is a popular activity at the lake, and there are several fishing spots available. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and there are plenty of other activities nearby, including hiking trails and camping.

If you’re looking for a unique experience, check out the Kyle Railroad Depot and Heritage Center, a museum that showcases the local culture and history. Other notable attractions include the yearly Pie in the Sky hot air balloon festival, which offers a family-friendly atmosphere, live music, food vendors, and more.

For golf lovers, the area is home to the 18-hole Plum Creek Golf Course. There are also a number of restaurants and bars in the area that offer Texan cuisine. Hays City Store and Icehouse is a favorite with families, offering chicken fried steak, wood-fired pizzas, and 40 beers on tap. Guests who choose to stay near the park can find hotels like Hampton Inn Kyle and Comfort Suites, both of which feature laid-back rooms and outdoor pools.


For many people, the best way to experience Texas is by enjoying a picnic at Lake Kyle Park. This picturesque area is the perfect spot for families to enjoy a scenic morning or afternoon in nature, and it also provides an opportunity to try some of the city’s finest restaurants.

From exploring history at the Kyle Heritage Museum to hiking through Pleasant Valley Park, there is a wide variety of attractions in this charming town. Visitors can also take a tour of Inner Space Cavern, which is home to stunning rock formations as well as fossils and artifacts from prehistoric times.

Afterward, you can try some of the local cuisines at eateries like El Gallo Rojo for savory fajitas and tamales, or head to Crepe Crazy for sweet or savory crepes. If you’re looking for a little retail therapy, check out the shops at Kyle Crossing or Plum Creek Marketplace. Then, you can head out for a fun evening at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema or Striker Bowling Alley. A wonderful place to also visit is Overlook Park.


The community of Kyle offers residents a variety of recreational opportunities and amenities. In addition to the city’s catch-and-release lake, there are several parks, including Steeplechase Park, where families can enjoy basketball courts, and walking trails, spend time at the playground, or take their dogs for a walk in the dog park.

In Downtown Kyle, a stroll through City Square Park provides an opportunity to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts, browse local arts and crafts vendors or check out the community’s seasonal events, such as Santa on the Square or Movies in the Park. The historic Kyle Railroad Depot and Heritage Center is also a must-see for families.

Hometown Kyle, located near IH-35, offers a neighborhood feel and is located close to the Hays County Schools district. The community boasts a pickleball court, resort-style pool, fishing dock, pond, and outdoor gathering spaces. Typical homes within the community feature stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and master suites with walk-in closets. Residents have access to many area parks and golf courses, and the San Marcos Premium Outlets are a short drive away.

Nature Trails

Lake Kyle Park offers four different nature trails, over 4 miles in total using a variety of surfaces. The trails are marked with colored trail post markers and will get you on your way. The Orange, Green and Blue Trails use crushed granite, mulch, and cement respectively and the Cross Country Trail will challenge even the most experienced of hikers.

While other areas have shut down their parks and trails due to COVID-19, Kyle continues to allow residents to get outside while enforcing social distancing protocols. Additionally, the city recently finished construction of the 3.5-mile Plum Creek Trail connecting Waterleaf Park and Lake Kyle Park.
